The Script Series, Volume 5: Automate your daily Tempo tasks in Jira with this new collection of scripts in the Adaptavist Library

This new addition to the Adaptavist Library sees a collaboration between Adaptavist and one of our close partners, Tempo. A collection of scripts have been added to the Adaptavist Library to help our users automate their daily Tempo tasks in Jira. We'll take a dive into the 5 scripts on offer, then check out Tempo's blog to see some great examples of how these scripts work in practice.

Get up to speed with Tempo

Tempo is a top vendor on the Atlassian Marketplace, with leading efficiency and visibility-enhancing apps such as Tempo Timesheets, Tempo Planner and Tempo Budgets to help IT, software development, consultancy, and business teams work smarter.

Tempo & ScriptRunner Snippet: Automate the Creation a Tempo Account using ScriptRunner

Imagine you are working with a new team and need to create a new project in Jira. Once this has been created, you will need to associate a new Tempo account with this project so you can easily track time, plans or budgets across the teams using this project.

Use this Post Function snippet to create a Tempo account in Jira using the Tempo REST API, for all team members who are added to the project. No matter your requirements, the ‘Create a Tempo Account using ScriptRunner’ script can you save you time when planning, budgeting and timekeeping by automating this process.

Utilising the Tempo REST Endpoint, basic authentication is used in the headers of the request to authenticate the user. However, the authenticated user must have permission to create a Tempo account.

Please note: this snippet can be used with Tempo Timesheets, Tempo Planner and Tempo Budgets depending on your requirements.

Tempo & ScriptRunner Snippet: Display account metadata on Jira issues

This snippet can link accounts with issues and displays vital information about that account within the Jira issue using a custom scripted field. This means you can get more information in one place rather than having to spend time manually searching for data in the Tempo account.

Say for example, you’re a project lead and need to review selected accounts to know the status of each account, who the account lead is, and a contact name for each account. This snippet allows you to find out this information and conduct a review for reporting and bookkeeping with ease, as all the relevant data is in one location.

Tempo & ScriptRunner Snippet: Display Account Lead field on Jira issues

This snippet works similarly to the above snippet by adding a ScriptRunner field as a Jira custom field to your issues. However, this script will only show the account lead, as well as making it searchable with JQL.

So, for example, if you need to contact specific Tempo account leads about a problem, you can select the accounts from a list using this snippet to find the names of the account lead.

Tempo & ScriptRunner Snippet: Get Tempo plans for a set time period

This ScriptRunner and Tempo Planner snippet gathers all Tempo plans for a set time period using the Tempo REST API, allowing you to plan and manage work for your teams by increasing transparency within projects and maximising your resources. For example, with this data, you can see the tasks set for your employees and make amendments to the workload as necessary.

This snippet is using the Tempo REST Endpoint with a basic authentication used in the headers of the request. The authenticated user must have permission to view the plans for users; otherwise, plans are not returned by the API.

Over at Tempo, they have written a blog highlighting 3 scripts from the collection. They have included an insightful success story on how this snippet has helped a fast-paced consulting company increase their productivity by sending a daily email with information from the Work Items logged on Tempo Planning.

Please note: this snippet can be used with Tempo Planner

Tempo & ScriptRunner Snippet: Sync the Account field based on issue links

A Tempo account is often linked to an epic and all issues within that epic. This means teams can track time, plan workloads and manage budgets across projects. It may be necessary for the account field to be updated or edited for an epic and all linked issues. This script updates all linked issues automatically so a user doesn’t have to spend time doing this. The script is triggered when the Tempo account field on an epic is changed. Head over to Tempo’s blog to find out more information on this script.
