App news: Attachment Download for Confluence is being retired

All good things must end - and that time has come for Attachment Download for Confluence. As of 30 September 2022 we are officially retiring Attachment Download, one of Adaptavist’s longest-running apps.

Why is the app being retired?

Attachment Download was developed to give users a fixed (static) URL for attachments in Confluence, designed to help with discovery and eliminate broken attachment URLs. This has been extremely helpful for many users throughout the app’s lifecycle.

However, in the 12 years the app’s been active, Confluence’s native functionality has developed enormously. Attachment Download’s functionality now largely exists within out-of-the-box Confluence, which means users no longer get the same added value from our app. This has led us to the ultimate decision to discontinue Attachment Download for Confluence.

What does this mean for me?

Although we’re no longer going to update or support Attachment Download, you’ll still be able to download historical versions of the app from the Atlassian Marketplace. You won’t lose any functionality immediately, although we won’t be making Attachment Download compatible with future versions of Confluence (or providing support for it).

Continuing the journey

From all of us in the Attachment Download team and the wider Adaptavist business, we want to thank all our users for their support in developing and improving the app. It's never easy to say goodbye to a product, and we hope you find the tools you need within Confluence, the Atlassian Marketplace, or perhaps even Adaptavist's suite of Confluence apps.
