Find out about the capabilities and benefits of the agentic platform – now available to all GitLab users

Our partner, GitLab, has news – it has just announced the general availability of GitLab Duo Agent Platform. The platform extends GitLab’s existing Duo AI tool and aligns with the company's vision to bring agentic AI across the entire software development life cycle (SDLC).
Let’s take a look at what access to GitLab Duo Agent Platform means for your organisation – its capabilities and the benefits it brings.

GitLab Duo Agent Platform – what’s the news?

GitLab Duo Agent Platform is now generally available – meaning all your engineering, product, and design teams can collaborate asynchronously with AI agents to speed up their workflows.
If you’re questioning how you ship software, you’re not alone. With the recent tidal wave of AI tools, everyone is being forced to innovate and rethink software development processes.
While AI has largely been focused on speeding up code creation and driving developer productivity – in some cases to great effect – these tools haven’t been as integrated into the rest of the SDLC… until now.
With GitLab Duo Agent Platform, the whole life cycle is transformed into an agentic workflow. Rather than faster code writing causing bottlenecks, your entire SDLC can benefit from intelligent orchestration and agentic AI automation, from code reviews and security vulnerabilities to compliance checks and bug fixes.

2026 – the year of AI agents

The launch of GitLab Duo Agent Platform is right on time. In our 2026 AI predictions blog, our experts said this would be the year AI agents cemented their place in software development life cycles.

GitLab Duo Agent Platform – what does it do?

GitLab Duo Agent Platform brings capabilities like context-driven chat, specialised and customisable agents, and built-in multi-step workflows to your SDLC.
A unified human–agent experience inside GitLab
Your people get a single, consistent experience interacting with AI agents right where they’re completing day-to-day DevSecOps activities – in issues, merge requests, pipelines, epics, and repositories.
Chat with context on your full life cycle
GitLab Duo Agentic Chat draws on your entire SDLC, from planning artifacts and code to security findings and infrastructure, to answer complex questions, explain unfamiliar systems, summarise changes, and autonomously perform actions for you.
Agents designed for targeted tasks
The platform supports foundational, custom, and external agents, all operating within GitLab’s governed environment. Its foundational Planner and Security Analyst Agents are already in general availability (the Data Analyst agent is currently in beta). And there are more out-of-the-box agents on the way.
Flows for repeatable, multi-step work
Agents become more powerful when they’re combined into workflows. GitLab Duo Agent Platform comes with built-in end-to-end agentic flows to simplify complex development activities, including issue to merge request creation, CI/CD migration and modernisation, and code review.
Integration with your critical tools
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) Client lets GitLab Duo securely connect to your external tools, including Jira, Confluence, and Slack. This enables AI agents to pull in context and take action from the tools where the work gets done.
A flexible approach to governance and deployment
GitLab Duo Agent Platform is available on GitLab.com, GitLab Self-Managed, and GitLab Dedicated, and supports multiple LLMs. It includes group-based access controls to support flexible adoption and governance, and visibility tools so teams can easily see how agents are used and measure their impact.

Software delivery with GitLab Duo Agent Platform

The GitLab Duo Agent Platform can transform the way your teams ship software, from faster delivery and improved knowledge sharing to better-quality code and greater governance. Here are the big benefits at a glance:
  • Deliver faster without the burnoutwith AI handling analysis and setup in your developers' existing workflows, they can reduce context switching and manual coordination, leading to shorter lead times for your software.
  • Improve onboarding and share your knowledge with Agentic Chat explaining codebases, architecture, and pipelines, based on your knowledge base, the learning curve is flattened for new hires.
  • Step up quality and consistencywith AI assisting with code generation, test creation, documentation, and reviews, quality and security standards get applied consistently and frequently.
  • Strengthen securitythe Security Analyst Agent explains vulnerabilities clearly and simply, reducing alert fatigue, increasing remediation speed, and helping your teams to focus on what matters most.
  • Use AI without sacrificing governance get the visibility and compliance controls you need to scale AI use safely, including restricting access, choosing approved models, and deploying across your existing environments.
  • Avoid tool sprawl with all the agents you need make the most of foundational, custom, and external agents all in one place. Ensure your AI usage aligns with the organisation's standards rather than personal preferences.
