AI is on the move

AI has the potential to transform all aspects of work, particularly in the digital space. With reliable tools that automate time-consuming, labour-intensive tasks, your human workers can focus on more strategic thinking, helping deliver more value for the organisation.
Even better, AI brings new opportunities to analyse and make decisions from your data and knowledge base, driving business value from the first prompt.
Rather than worrying that robots are 'taking our jobs,' people are embracing AI for its ability to carry some of the workload, speed up processes, deliver insight, and make our lives that much easier.
Atlassian is one software provider that isn't shying away from the power of AI, but rather leaning in and optimising how GenAI capabilities, in particular, can transform its tools for the better.
With the launch of AI features for Atlassian tools, productivity has received a welcome boost for users of popular tools like Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and the video-recording app Loom. In addition, Atlassian knows that you're not just using the Atlassian app suite—large companies use over 230 applications on average—and that data silos and knowledge discovery present a big problem for people trying to gain insights and make decisions with so much information to consider.
Step in, Atlassian Rovo.

What is Atlassian Rovo?

Rovo was first announced at Atlassian's Team '24 conference in Las Vegas. The app was promoted as a solution for finding exactly what you need in the context of how it's relevant to you without needing to switch tools. Using AI-driven insights and AI agents (hello, robot friends) helps your teams locate information across all their SaaS apps, learn what they need to know, and make decisions faster.
Rovo is based on Atlassian's proprietary common data model, known as the 'cloud teamwork graph'. It combines data from Atlassian's products and connected third-party tools (over 100+ available) to understand how your teams work, common patterns, organisational structures, etc., to gain a comprehensive view of your business.
With every new connection that's made, like actions and events, the cloud teamwork graph builds more connections, expands its knowledge, and can deliver even more useful results for your organisation.

Rovo is now available free for all Atlassian users

At this year's Team'25 event, Atlassian made two big Rovo announcements, which are sure to excite tool users.
Rovo has been rearchitected into three platform apps—Search, Chat, and Studio—to drive meaningful AI actions across your toolset and make it even easier to deliver results.
Even better, Rovo will now be available free of charge for all Atlassian users and cheaper for non-Atlassian users, starting with Enterprise and Premium and then rolling out to Standard users.

A closer look at Rovo's key features

Atlassian Rovo is being built around three core pillars – finding and connecting with your work, learning from that information, and taking action.

Rovo Search

Rovo Search hunts through your data, tools, and platforms, including third-party apps, to give you relevant information while you're using Atlassian tools. So you only need to search once to find the answers you're looking for.
  • Information from the tools you use – with your permission, Rovo Search can trawl through 100+ connected third-party apps, including Google Drive, Microsoft Sharepoint, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Figma, and GitHub, to find the information you need – whether that's expertise within the business or the status of a project.
  • Information from your own systems – using a custom database or have your own industry-specific system? With Rovo's API, you can connect those tools to be part of the search, too.
  • Information with permissions in place – all your existing permissions will be respected, so your people will only see results that are personalised to them from data they're allowed to access.

Rovo Chat

Access to data is useless if you can't understand it. But with Rovo Chat, you can unlock accurate, in-depth answers to your questions, helping you understand your organisation inside out. Think of it as an interactive approach to learning—a buddy by your side so you're always up to speed.
  • Knowledge cards – while you're working, you can get instant answers about projects, goals, and teammates in snapshot-style knowledge cards.
  • Chat like a human—Rovo Chat will get smarter every day. It's there to interact with you (even when your coworkers are busy). Ask questions, get ideas, get feedback, and resolve issues. It will also suggest related topics and follow-up questions to give you all the details you need.
  • Jargon busting – never be in the dark about what that acronym means. Rovo has got your back, demystifying any unusual or unfamiliar terms.
  • Deep research – request a deep dive of your knowledge base to provide in-depth research around your prompt and gain company-specific insight into topics.

Rovo Studio

With all the information and knowledge you need to be covered, now it's time to take action, and Rovo can help with that, too. Rovo Agents are virtual teammates that can carry some of your workload. Much more than your average chatbot, these are specialised agents, with many ready-to-use out-of-the-box and even more available on Atlassian Marketplace. You can even build your own using Atlassian's no-code text interface or with Forge.
  • Content creators – Rovo Agents can create and edit content for internal communications, marketing, and PR.
  • Streamline tasks—use your virtual teammate to clean up Jira backlogs, organise Confluence pages, take action on Jira issues, or review content automatically based on a specific trigger or at a certain time.
  • In the know – Rovo Agents can answer complex questions, recommend best practices, create checklists, and contribute to your knowledge bases.
  • Team players – they're also great for onboarding new starters and encouraging team gratitude and collaboration.
