Hi,

I gave the bubbles 1.5M1 version a try in our test environment (Confluence 2.10.3, ATB 3.3.4-conf210, Weblogic 9.2 with Java 1.5), where every space is shown with Theme builder layouts. Strange problems happen when viewing pages.

I did the following:

  1. Install the plugin
  2. Accept the EULA
  3. Rebuild the search index

The following two screenprints show the correct (left) and strange behaviour:

Behaviour differences:

  • The dashboard line is missing
  • The edit menu has gone
  • Left panel has disappeared
  • Right panel has disappeared

Disabling the plugin reverts back to the normal behaviour. Not that this happens with 1.5M1 and 1.4 as well.

My question is: how to start with this issue? I'd like to give bubbles a try, for forums etc, but first of all, normal things must remain the same.

Thanks in advance,

Herman.

    Hi,

Some additional info: when viewing a page, it seems that ATB administration is wrong, as shown in the debug output:

     <!--
      userAgent: 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042316 Firefox/3.0.10'

      layoutId : 'ORDINALBLAUWMAIN'
      spaceName : 'Wiki Sandbox'
      currentURL : '/display/SANDBOX/TabelExceledittest'
      contextPath : ''
      action name : '$themebuilder.getActionName($req)'

      Latched adaptavist.builder.layoutId: null

I tried disabling the scaffolding plugin, without a change.

Maybe is Bubbles 1.5M1 not compatible with Themebuilder 3.3.4?

    Regards, Herman.

  2. Please ensure that you use the space admin 'set parent space' action rather than metadata2 .. metadata2 is more ineffcient (in that it keeps resetting the parent space every time you view the page with the macro in it) and it seems a touch flaky at times.

I can imagine that your logs will be filled with exceptions relating to 'bandanavalue is not type 5' or something like that.

Setting the parent space using builder should resolve this.

      Hi Alain,

this wiki doesn't use space hierarchies at all. Metadata plugin has been installed, but the {parent-space} macro hasn't been used.

Setting the parent space using builder didn't change the behaviour.
I don't have access to the log files, hopefully I get a copy tomorrow.

      Thanks again and regards,
      Herman.

      1. Hmm ... that's odd!

The crumbs vaping themselves is usually related to the action being viewed not conforming to the confluence 2.7+ (class based) way of building the crumbs.

If at all possible it would be most useful if you could restart the server, then visit the page, and then immediatley grab a copy of the atlassian-confluence.log (since that will mean we dont have to go hunting) ... although why the crumbs chimping would affect the sidebars is another question entirely.

The logs should contain the answer.

          Hi,

Server was restarted this morning, page was visited, logfile was copied.
The logfile shows no error at all:

I think I can safely assume that the warning about macro-security.properties isn't relevant.

The stdout logfile however contains some messages which might reveal something:

Unfortunately, no stacktrace is in the atlassian-confluence.log.

Does give a clue to anyone?

          Regards, Herman.

          1. Are you using java 1.6?

            1. Unknown User (hboer1965)

              No, 1,5.

Reasoning: we have a requirement for a certified configuration, with lots of oracle stuff.
Hence Weblogic 9.2 on an oracle 10g database. On that weblogic version, java 1.6 is known to give problems - hence 1.5.

              Regards, Herman.

              1. Heh, the less I say about weblogic the better ... I'm sure your internal devs will have said it all before anyway (wink)

Thats good, I seem to remember Shannon talking about bubbles having some serialisation issues with java 1.6, out of interest which JVM are you using (sun/ibm etc)

It's unlikely that we will be backporting the removal of the licensing code to bubbles 1.3 unless someone wishes to pay for us to do it.

The issue with the serialistion that another customer was having was included in the 1.3.3 release: BUBBLES-356 so the fix would be in 1.4 and 1.5-m* builds as well. There must be another change in 1.4 that is causing the problem.

  3. Unknown User (hboer1965)

    Hi,

I gave Bubbles 1.3.3 a try today. That version worked well.

So, in my opinion, there has been a change in 1.4 (and in the 1.5 versions so far), which at least in our configuration (which is a test environment with a developers license) gives problems.

Is there a way to get the 1.3.3 version work in a licensed (production) wiki? Some departments are in high need for forums; a function which might bump the adoption for the wiki a lot.

    Thanks in advance, regards,

    Herman.

    Hi,

an update on this one: now the 1.5-M2 is running fine, with ATB 3.3.4-conf210. Its was necessary to disable all the locking-features, as shown in the picture below:

Forum configuration on the general administration console (/admin/bubbles/forumPermissions.action) crashes, probably because many features have been disabled (wink)

Another small thing that I noticed when the pagetitle ends in a question mark:
    The{compound-menuitem:newcomment} macro generates a non-functional link:

    /pages/viewpage.action?amp;showCommentArea=true&showComments=true&pageId=28049411#addcomment

The ?amp; phrase should've been a real quistion mark, I think.

    Thanks and regards, Herman.

      Hi,

upgraded the environment descibed above to ATB 3.3.4 and Bubbles 1.5.

Still the issue occurs, but the only module which must be disabled to make things work is Display Comment Area Filter (and the ones which have been disabled by default).

I hope this helps in finding the problem.

      Regards, Herman.
