The newly released JIRA Software 7.3 delivers an improved user experience with greater control for project admins at the forefront. Here's the lowdown on the new version.
Responding to customer feedback, Atlassian has delivered greater flexibility to delegate, deploy and manage JIRA. Users, especially those in the Enterprise, will see a range of benefits centred, mainly, on performance, collaboration and user experience.
Passing the power from JIRA administrator to project administrator
It's now within the project level admin's power to modify workflows: creating, editing or deleting transitions, or adding an existing status. This allows admins to focus on more valuable activities than managing permissions and amending workflows.
Additionally, Atlassian has added a new workflow event to the administrator audit log that gives global admins better visibility of changes to workflows what they are, who made them and to which projects. Any changes made only affect the project to which they're assigned, removing the margin for error. The benefits are twofold: more control to the project admins while lessening the burden on global admins.
Zero downtime upgrades on Data Center
It's now possible to upgrade to the latest version of JIRA Software whenever you want without any interruptions to workflow, thanks to the introduction of zero downtime upgrades. This is great news for those running Data Center. From version JIRA 7.3, when it's time to upgrade and you're running multiple nodes in a cluster, you'll shut down and upgrade one node at a time. This means that all user traffic can be redirected to the other nodes so users can continue with business as usual.
On average JIRA Software 7.3 performs concurrent actions 4% faster than JIRA 7.2.5. Scalability and performance for the Enterprise will continue to be core to Atlassian's roadmap for JIRA.
We did some extensive testing on concurrent usage against previous releases to see how JIRA 7.3 performance stacks up. Across the board, even as you double the number of projects, workflows and custom fields, response times remain steady.
Default rich text editing
Now the default experience when editing, the Rich Text Editor vastly improves the user experience. There's no need to use Wiki markup so it's easy to edit and format text and see exactly how it will be displayed.
Clearly, the user experience continues to be another main area of focus in the JIRA family as JIRA moves further and further into the organisation.
