Export and import your Jira Service Desk objects with Project Configurator for Jira

We're excited to announce Project Configurator for Jira now includes comprehensive Jira Service Desk support, bringing the power of migration automation to your busy support and IT teams. 

Jira Service Desk admins are often flooded with requests and asked to make major changes at a moment's notice. That's why we're thrilled to give these admins the tools they need to spend less time making tedious changes in Jira and more time solving big problems. Admins can now easily and automatically copy across projects and configurations from one instance of Jira Service Desk to another. This release represents a milestone as the first  application in the Marketplace to offer this level of Jira Service Desk migration automation.

Some use cases include:

  • Seamlessly migrating configuration changes from staging to production.
  • Pulling out data and configurations and migrating them to a new server when a team has out grown its Jira Service Desk instance
  • Facilitating the duplication of existing configurations to new Jira Service Desk projects when a new team or product is launched.
  • Easily storing or archiving legacy Service Desks projects.

If you've ever tried to migrate data from one Jira Service Desk instance to another, or merge two instances together, you likely found it to be a difficult and manual task. Jira's ability to be customised by its users, while being one of its greatest strengths, can spell a nightmare for achieving tasks that require a 1-1 relationship.

Project Configurator was created to make this process more user-friendly and automated. Jira Service Desk poses many of the same challenges, which is why we've extended Project Configurator to include Jira Service Desk support. 

What does this mean for you? 

When you update to version 2.3.0 or later, you'll automatically pull across your Service Desk data and/or configuration when you perform an export. We've focused on making exporting and importing as seamless as possible, so the only change you'll notice to Project Configurator is that you'll have the ability to exclude Jira Service Desk objects. These include request types, request type groups, SLAs, queues, reports, email configurations and many more. To learn more about the different Jira Service Desk objects, take a look at our documentation.  

The release of Jira Service Desk support enables Jira Admins to follow change management best practices and make changes to their Jira Service Desk projects in a staging instance and then copy those changes across to their production instance.
