Every other month, Tom Crespi from Graybar organizes one of the best Atlassian User Groups (AUG). St. Louis is about three hours from our office in Springfield but it’s well worth the drive.
Hot topics and cold beer
We jointly sponsored the social Atlassian User Group (AUG) in St Louis, Missouri on February 8th with the folks from Schlafly Bottleworks, a popular brewery in St. Louis. The social AUGs are something that Tom puts together once or twice a year, and there is less emphasis on presentations and more on networking and spending time with the attendees.
I went with my colleague, Jonny Carter. He specializes in ScriptRunner, something that people really want to talk about. Jonny was speaking at Enterprise Holdings’ Atlassian Community of Practice about ScriptRunner the next day. So it was great to meet a few people at the AUG and talk through how they’re using ScriptRunner before the presentation to the community.
Another thing that people at the AUG were keen to know more about was Atlassian Certification. As a contributor to the certification exams and having written the study materials for them, I always get a lot of questions – both from people considering getting certified as part of their job and from other Atlassian Solution Partners.
The wide-ranging discussion also took in Agile portfolio management and migrating JIRA and Confluence to Data Center and AWS before turning to the best places to go hiking in Missouri. Joe Tong, one of Atlassian’s Solution Partner Managers, also gave a presentation about StatusPage, ChatOps, and Atlassian Home. Out of deference to Joe, who is from Atlanta, we all avoided talking about the Super Bowl.
As always, we’re so happy to attend and connect with people who are using Atlassian software in their organisations. We appreciate the opportunity to work with Tom and sponsor the St. Louis AUG and can’t wait until the next one at the end of March.
