I'm currently trying to fight the distraction monster.
There's tons of things I'm involved with for Adaptavist and I'm still in the middle of moving into my house. Like everyone I've got other family and life commitments and I'm trying to get fit. Getting fit takes up valuable spodd/geek/working time. And in the process of trying to become fit I have found another distraction/obsession.... bikes. Helpfully I'm not distracted by kids as we're a no kids household. I'm doing my bit for the environment there by not creating another acquisitive consumer with the genes of its acquisitive consumer parents
.
Almost all of one side of my family have ADHD and I really struggle to focus. I seem to work better under pressure and fueled by copious amounts of caffeine. So my new plan is task based.
On weekends I give myself an hour to complete a certain task. If it's not complete I move to task 2, and so on. Tasks are interspersed with non-computer based tasks as I find myself distracted if I sit in front of the screen too much which leads to social no-working.
Standard working days will be task based with some non-work tasks in the evenings.
So far on day one of the experimenting, it's worked well, except I've distracted myself from my previous task by writing this blog. Half way through the blog I got distracted by twitter. God help me.

I'm going to start time managing, esp now I'm down to working 2 days a week, because if I'm not away from my computer I just carry on working, which is madness, even though I've dropped my hours I've got less free time :o. I do have a 3hr a day commitment to walking the dog, but it's not like I've got kids or anything so I too need to get disciplined. I'm going to set myself hour long tasks as well and we can compare notes.
