I've been intrigued about the possibilities of using my N95 to connect to our Gradwell account for a while now ... and I've managed to get it working!
It doesn't connect constantly, but it does mean that when I'm near a wireless hotspot I can talk freely using our virtual PBX. So if I'm in a hotel in another country where I have got accessible wifi access, I'll be able to call the UK via Gradwell ... e.g. so that I can call home/other voip numbers, or just reduce the cost of calls by calling via the UK.
My mobile extension number is: 2056802
If you have a Nokia N95 read on for a list of my settings. You will need a VoIP extension and password dedicated for your device's use to continue.
The original instructions from Gradwell are here.
Creating the SIP Profile
Navigate through Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > SIP Settings and then Options > New SIP Profile > Use default profile.
| Profile name | Gradwell (can be whatever you want) |
| Service profile | IETF |
| Default access point | Your WLAN (outside the scope of this post) |
| Public Username | XXXX@lon-pbx-1.gradwell.net (XXXX is your extension number) |
| Use Compression | no |
| Registration | When needed |
| Use security | no |
Proxy Server
Drill down into the Proxy Server settings:
| Proxy server address | nat.gradwell.net |
| Realm | lon-pbx-1.gradwell.net |
| User name | XXXX (XXXX is your extension number) |
| Password | password |
| Allow loose routing | Yes |
| Transport Type | UDP |
| Port | 5082 |
Go back up.
Registrar Server
Drill down into the Registrar Server settings:
| Registrar server address | nat.gradwell.net |
| Realm | asterisk |
| User name | XXXX (XXXX is your extension number) |
| Password | password |
| Allow loose routing | Yes |
| Transport Type | UDP |
| Port | 5060 |
Go back up.
Setting up Internet Telephone
Navigate through Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Internet tel. and then Options > New Profile.
The defaults should work.
Give it a try
You will need to reboot your phone, and then to do an Internet Call:
- Dial an extension number
- Options > Internet Call
You might get asked questions about needing register (with the SIP server) so you'll need to let it. Then, bingo!
I've not tried it roaming outside of here yet, but this should be enough to get you going.
I've finally installed Skype ... and while I won't be using it for voice communication, I will be using the IM capabilities of it - when I remember to log in.
My username is dhardiker so feel free to look me up.
