Hi,
I've been working with the Community Bubbles plugin for a while now and I'm very happy with its possibilities in Confluence. However, there is one thing I can't seem to get right: creating a situation where a user can see a 'request to join' link but not the space that is behind that community.
This is what I have done so far:
- Create a new community 'Community X' based on the 'closed enrollment' setting. While the enrollment description states 'Users can request to join a community directly, but this needs to be approved by a community administrator', I assume that I should be able to provide a link somewhere else where users can request to join Community X.
- Create a 'request to join' link in another space that is public, to that non-members of Community X can request to join that community. The link is formatted as follows: {join-community:communityx|requestjoin=Please let me join the community}
What happens is this:
- Logged in as a Confluence Administrator, I can already see both Community X and the link to join in the other space and since I'm already a member of Community X, the link offers me to leave the community
- However, when logged in as a normal confluence-users user, I cannot see the Community X space (which is expected) but I also cannot see the request to join link. The documentation then says 'If the user viewing the page does not have permission to view the community space that the macro is setup for no links will be displayed unless the user is invited to the community or they are already a member.'
Question: given the above, how do I set up a scenario where a user cannot yet see the community space he/she intends to join, but is able to see a link to request to join that community from another space.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Jurriaan van Reijsen

This functionality is affected by a bug in current versions of Bubbles, which has been fixed in the latest EAP release for Confluence 4 and will be backported for Confluence 3.x users later. However, in your scenario we'd recommend using the OPEN community type.
