Highlight macro causes formatting with line breaks

Confluence 4.1.2.
Essentials Pack 2.0.1.

I am using the Highlight macro, trying to highlight certain words in a text line. But it causes for the highlighted word to be in a new line and the following text again.
Is there a way to prevent this?

    Thanks for the question. This macro is supposed to have the inline option available, but it looks like this was missed during conversion of the plugin to Confluence 4. I've raised a bug for this on our internal system and it will be included in a future release.

        I don't know when they next release will be about, as it's subject to scheduling around paid-for consultancy work. However, you could use a styled span inline to achieve the same thing.
