This would be why Adaptavist get so many Shared Hosting customers!! |
| Cost is really important |
Ok, this is the same as the last item, but just look at the cost differences in the table below - we just had to include this twice! |
| Lots of disk space |
If you need more disk space, check out our Dedicated Hosting solutions which start at 250GB. |
| Less than 12 month's hosting |
Adaptavist's minimum term is just 3 months. |
| Segregation from other customers |
If this is a critical requirement, see Dedicated Hosting vs. Enterprise Hosting. |
| Download nightly backups |
Use Adaptavist's free Backup Manager plugin. |
| Installation of plugins |
Plugins increase RAM consumption and may require a higher hosting band. |
| Customisation |
Adaptavist's hosting includes Theme Builder free of charge. |
| License ownership |
Buy a license and our Shared Hosting is still cheaper! |
| Performance |
If you need maximum performance, see Dedicated Hosting vs. Enterprise Hosting. |
| Access to Operating System |
If you need secure OS access, see Dedicated Hosting vs. Enterprise Hosting. |
The two services are very similar, but please read this page to fully understand the differences.
Atlassian's "Enterprise Hosting"
Atlassian's service is a Virtual Private Server (VPS) solution where multiple organisations share the same physical server, but each has a virtual operating system and dedicated application:
Each organisation has a dedicated wiki
Each organisation has one or more dedicated applications. You can allow other organisations to access your applications if desired.
Atlassian's service is best suited to organisations that:
- require more than 10GB of disk space (Adaptavist's Dedicated Hosting service provides 250GB or higher space and still works out cheaper)
- require access to the operating system (Adaptavist's Dedicated Hosting service provides full root level access to the operating system)
- don't require a dedicated physical server with uncontended resources
Adaptavist's "Shared Hosting"
Adaptavist's service is pretty much the same, the key architectural difference being that you don't have access to the operating system:
Each organisation has one or more dedicated applications
Each organisation has one or more dedicated applications. You can allow other organisations to access your applications if desired.
Adaptavist's service best suited to organisations that:
- require lower, often significantly lower, costs
- require ownership of the software license
- don't require access to the operating system (the service is fully managed)
- require 10GB or less disk space
- don't require a dedicated physical server with uncontended resources
Cost Comparison
Please read the text below carefully so you are fully aware of the cost factors involved should your decision be made on a cost-only basis.
Both Atlassian and Adaptavist offer discounts for paying annually in advance which gives the minimum cost over 12 months.

Notes:
- Adaptavist's service requires you own a Confluence/JIRA license. We offer a 10% discount on licenses that are hosted with us.
- An exchange rate of 1 GBP to 2 USD has been used, whereas the actual exchange rate is often something like 1:1.95 thus making Adaptavist prices shown above more expensive than they actually are - please see xe.com for current exchange rates
- The hosting band shown is based on the average band used by our customers for the number of users. Depending on your use of Confluence you may require a higher or lower hosting band depending on how much RAM you use - we recommend starting on a lower band and only upgrade if needed. For more information see Factors affecting RAM consumption.
- Adaptavist offer a 20% hosting discount for non-profit organisations, this discount has not been included in the figures above.
License Fees
When you host with Atlassian, you do not require a license - it's included in the price.
When you host with Adaptavist, you will require a Commercial or Academic license (unless you are a non-profit organisation in which case the license is free). Adaptavist offer a 10% discount on license fees which are hosted with us.
If you already have a license, you don't need to buy one from us. Simply host your existing license - we'll transfer the data free of charge.

Notes:
- Even with the license fee, our Shared Hosting is still cheaper than Atlassian's Enterprise Hosting.
- The license is owned by you, not Adaptavist. You can transfer your wiki to any other hosting provider or host it within your own data centre.
- The license key is sent directly from Atlassian, it is a full license and is exactly the same as you would get if you purchased directly from Atlassian, just 10% cheaper.
- The license is perpetual, it lasts forever and does not expire.
