Confluence Global Permissions

What are global permissions?

Global permission settings allow you to control access to your confluence site. This is accomplished by specifing which actions can be performed by users and groups on your site.

Through globals permissions you can designate who is able administer your site. By default confluence does not alllow access anonymous users to add, edit or comment on pages.

Permission Description
Can Use Allows access to the the site
Attach Files to User Profile This permission is obsolete.
Personal Space Lets users create a personal space.
Create Space(s) Lets users create new space within your site. By default, the user that creates a space has admin for that space.
Confluence Administrator Users with the confluence administrator can perform most site-wide Confluence administration. These actions are performed through the administration console.
System Administrator All administration functions are available to be performed through the administration console.

Administration

Confluence Administrators

Can perform tasks relating to the day to day running of the site. In particular they can manage content. In this respect you could think of members of this groups as editors.

System Administrators

System administrators have full access to the confluence site.
They can perform the following.

  • General Configuration:
    • Server Base URL
    • Remote API plugin
    • External user management
    • Public Signup
  • Daily Backup Admin
  • Plugins
  • Mail Servers
  • User Macros
  • Attachment Storage
  • Layouts
  • Custom HTML
  • Backup & Restore
  • SnipSnap Import
  • Logging and Profiling
  • Cluster Configuration

Assigning Global Permissions

Accessing the Global Permissions Page

After you have logged into Confluence, click admin->administration.

On the admin control panel scroll down the page to the Security section and choose global permissions.

Setting Permissions for Users

Click the Edit Permissions button in the Indididual Users section.

Type in a username and then press Add.

Choose the permissions for the user by checking the relevant boxes.

Setting Permissions for Groups

Click the Edit Permissions button in the Groups section.

Type in the name of a group and then press Add.

Choose the permissions for the group by checking the relevant boxes.
