This worked great in my original layout. Later I started over, creating a similar layout, but with a dynamic width and now the icon behaves as mentioned, where you click it and nothing happens.
If I switch back to my fixed-width layout, it works. Any idea what could be affecting the link action? I did reimport the backup xml file, but that had no effect.
