Communities

Turn your Confluence spaces into Communities...

Communities functionality is available from the 1.1 release.

What are Community Spaces?

A normal space in Confluence is primarily a content repository used to store pages, news, comments and files. By turning a normal space in to a community space, you retain all the normal features but gain a community classification, designated membership group, permission schemes, membership management (join, invite, etc.), enrolment model (open, moderated, closed, network), home page portal and theme settings.

There's also a plethora of functionality such as listing community members, managing invite requests, listing communities of a given type and listing the communities you are a member of, etc.

Example Uses

We've seen many inventive uses for communities:

  • Job roles
  • Countries
  • Projects
  • Departments
  • Conference Sessions

In short, if there's an aspect of your organisation that brings people together, create a community for it.
