Overview

Adaptavist's Theme Builder plugin is the leading customisation tool for Confluence. Used by customers in over 55 countries, it allows you to customise the look and feel of Confluence. You're already looking at the results (this website uses Confluence, customised with Theme Builder).

The theme is ideal for making Confluence fit more closely with your corporate design guidelines and helps improve adoption of the wiki within your organisation by making it's design and navigation more familiar and thus easier to use for end-users.

While many organisations customise the theme themselves, there are times when skills shortages or simply lack of time require the work to be outsourced – and that's exactly what this service is for.

This is a heavily utilised service - be sure to book a few weeks in advance of when you want the work to start.

Why use our Theme Customisation service?

Adaptavist has been supporting customers worldwide for several years, helping them to customise Confluence. As such our staff have experienced a wide variety of customisation scenarios from the simplest design to the most complex Enterprise systems. We know what works and what doesn't and you can benefit from our experience.

As well as in-depth technical knowledge (obviously - we wrote the Theme Builder plugin) we've built up a vast experience of knowledge of CSS and design over the years. We now have a team of in-house designers, all familiar with Confluence and Theme Builder as well as the myriad of macros that can be used when customising a theme, eg. to provide dynamic navigation, etc.

How does it work?

Simple - you tell us what you want Confluence to look like and how you want the navigation to work, we make it happen!

Almost all of our customers who use this service have an existing Corporate Identity or design style that must be applied to their wiki. We'll need to see screen shots and if you have source graphics (eg. your logos, button images, etc.) we'll need those as well.

We'll need to ask some questions to clarify any ambiguities that arise - allow a week or two for this process.

Once we have all the required information, we'll confirm the work schedule. The theme customisation will be developed on a Confluence wiki that both you and Adaptavist have access to, allowing collaboration and feedback at all stages of the project.

The service does not include:

• Content production (with exception of Dashboard design for Intermediate and Advanced Layout) – we can offer content production services under an hourly rate (see bottom of page)
• Graphic or logo design – we can offer design services under an hourly rate (see bottom of page)
• Theme Builder, Confluence or any other third-party software licenses – we can procure the relevant licenses, contact us for details
• Hosting – we can provide hosting (which includes free use of Theme Builder) or help with your internal hosting if required

Basic Cutomisation - £499 GBP

This service is popular with very busy customers – when you just want to get something basic up and running that you can further customise yourself at a later date.

• Custom layout for spaces – using standard View/Edit menu navigation
• Basic panel customisation – colours, borders, etc.
• Basic panel content – basic wiki notation / macros
• Basic page border – eg. drop shadows either side of the page, but not at the top or bottom
• Basic customisation of menu – using menu macros provided in Theme Builder plugin
• Free printable layout – a pre-designed printer friendly layout

The basic customisation is usually completed within 1 week of work commencing.

Intermediate Customisation - £995 GBP

This service is popular with customers who want, nay... need, a custom dashboard or a more graphically tailored design.

The service provides all the features of a basic customisation, plus:

• Global-level pages layout – dashboard, search results, login, etc.
• Peer review – a second member of staff reviews the layouts during development
• User privilege navigation – eg. additional navigation for specific user groups or privileges
• Customised text styles – headings, normal text, italics, insertion, deletion, quotation
• Use of panel background images – eg. menu bar background

The intermediate customisation is usually completed within 1-2 weeks of work commencing.

Advanced Customisation - £1995 GBP

This service is popular with larger corporate customers – you've got a strong Corporate Identity that needs to make it's mark on the wiki and you need to get it right first time and ensure that it's maintainable longer term.

The service provides all the features of an intermediate customisation, plus:

• Two additional child layouts (derived from the main layout) – eg. for space home pages and personal spaces, etc.
• Context sensitive panel content – show/hide panel content based on labels, action, mode, metadata, etc.
• Developer Review – a senior developer reviews the layouts to ensure they adhere to best practice and are easily maintainable
• Web UI navigation links – eg. adding links for features found in third party plugins (requires the plugin to contain one or more Web UI modules)
• Space-level customisation – easily add space-level menus, customise colours at space level, etc.

The advanced customisation is usually completed within 2-4 weeks of work commencing.

Hourly Rate

We can provide additional customisation services for a fixed hourly rate if required. Unlike most other vendors, we make our prices available up-front, so here they are...

We offer discounts for larger projects and long-term customers.

We usually ask customers to choose one of the standard services shown above (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced) to start with in order to keep the costs down for the main part of the work and then just do the small extras under the hourly rate. However, some projects are so completely bespoke from the outset that the standard services don't apply.

We also offer bespoke Plugin Development services should you require custom functionality within your wiki.
