Space Theme
Themes allow you to drastically change the way content within a space looks and in some cases even allow you to add menus and customised style sheets. This tutorial shows you how to select which theme is applied to a space...
What are Themes?
Themes are add-ons for Confluence that allow you to change the way things look.
The Default (Confluence) theme is ideal for Wikis, Blogs and other community sites:
Note:
An alternate version of the Default theme, called the Plain Website theme also exists which removes most navigation (tabs, etc) when viewed by an anonymous user.
The Tabless theme is very similar to the Default theme, only the tabs are replaced by conventional links making it ideal where extended accessibility is required:
The Left Navigation theme is ideal for technical references and formal documentation:
And our very own Builder theme is ideal for highly polished websites and intranets:

- The theme must already be installed (see [USERGUIDE:Installing Themes])

Hints and Tips
You can change the theme as many times as you like. If you have used a theme that needed additional configuration, the settings will not be lost if you change to a different theme then later choose to go back to the configured theme.
Choose the theme based on way you are using the space, for example: The Default theme for community sites; The Left Navigation theme for online documentation sites; The Builder theme for websites and intranets.
If you select "No Theme" then the [USERGUIDE:Server Theme] will be used for the space. Should the [USERGUIDE:Server Theme] be changed, the space theme will also change.
Frequently Asked Questions
| Q |
I can't find some of the themes - where are they? |
| A |
Some of the themes may either not be available on your version of Confluence or may have been disabled by a Site Administrator. For more information, please contact your site administrator. |
| Q |
Why does the documentation on this site focus on the Builder theme? |
| A |
The other themes are already widely documented and all generally work the same way. However, Builder uses menu-driven navigation which is quite different to the other themes so we highlight the relevant menu options for the benefit of users of the theme. |
