Requirements

You must be logged in as a system administrator to access this functionality
You should have a basic understanding of Wiki Markup Editor

Step 1 - Administration Console

Access the Administration Console by clicking on the "Administration" link under [USERGUIDE:The Search Box] on The Dashboard:

Alternatively, in areas using the Builder theme, choose "Server Administration" from the "Edit > Administration" menu:

Step 2 - General Configuration Option

Click the "General Configuration" link in the "Configuration" sidebar:

This will display the current general configurations settings.

Step 3 - Editing the Welcome Message

Scroll to the bottom of the general configuration settings display and click the "Edit" button.

Locate the "Site Welcome Message" option and enter your welcome message in the text box to the right:

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Update" button.

Customised welcome text will provide a warmer welcome to your site and allows you to provide additional guidance to visitors.

Try to include a very brief overview as to what your organisation is about and what can be found within the website, etc.

Always return to The Dashboard after making any changes to ensure that the message is appearing how you expect it to.

Q	Can I use Wiki Markup Editor and Macros in the welcome message?
A	Yes. However, some macros might not work on The Dashboard so be sure to look at the dashboard to check everything is as expected.

Q	Can I revert to an old welcome message if I make a mistake?
A	No. There is no version control on the welcome message so if you make a mistake you will have to repeat the steps shown above to make the required changes manually.

Q	Can I display the welcome message anywhere else?
A	Yes. You can show the welcome message almost anywhere using the [USERGUIDE:welcome-message macro]. If you do this, you should ensure the welcome message does not include any references to Dashboard features that would only make sense to a visitor if they were viewing The Dashboard.
