Searching and Tracking
Find content quickly by searching and get notified of updates with tracking...
Searching
Confluence includes a powerful search engine that makes searching for content quick and easy.
All pages will have a search box in the upper right hand corner - simply enter what you are looking for and click the "Search" button:
Normally all Spaces will be searched, but you can filter the search results to show just a specific space or even specific types of content, etc.
Most popular types of file attachment can also be searched:
- Word, PDF and RTF documents
- Excel spreadsheets
- PowerPoint presentations
- XML, source and text files
And, if the basic filtering options don't suffice, you can use the Search Query Syntax to make your search criteria more precise.
Tracking
There are numerous ways to track changes to existing content and the addition of new content.
RSS Feeds / Atom Feeds / Web Feeds
You can remotely monitor Confluence for changes using something known as Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds, also known as Web Feeds.
RSS is a very widely adopted standard that provides a summary of recently updated content to external software such as your email client or web browser. There is a similar technology called "Atom" - it does more or less the same thing but delivers information in a slightly different format.
Once you subscribe to a feed, the software you are using (email client, etc) will regularly contact Confluence to get a list of the most recently updated content. You can then see at a glance what's changed (such as new pages added, etc) and click on an item for more details.

Watching Content
If you have a [user account], you can watch content for changes - whenever something you are watching gets changed, you are sent an email with the latest version of that something.
There are various levels at which you can watch content:
- Individual pages or news items
- The entire contents of a specific Space
- The entire contents of the entire site, including all the Spaces that you have privileges to view
