Global Logo

Changing the Global Logo

The global logo appears on The Dashboard and also in the header of any spaces without a custom logo. This tutorial shows you how to change the logo...

What is the Global Logo?

By default The Dashboard displays the Confluence logo which looks like this:

Providing your own logo is a great way to quickly customise The Dashboard, for example:

Requirements

  • You must be logged in as a system administrator to access this functionality
  • The logo must be a valid GIF, JPEG or PNG file
  • The logo should not be wider than 250 pixels

Step 1 - Administration Console

Access the Administration Console by clicking on the "Administration" link under the search box:

Alternatively, in areas using the Builder theme, choose "Server Administration" from the "Edit > Administration" menu:

Step 2 - Global Logo Option

Click the "Global Logo" link in the "Look and Feel" sidebar:

Step 3 - Uploading Your Logo

Click the "Browse" button to search for your logo (it must be located on your computer):

After selecting your logo, click the "Upload Logo" button to send the file from your computer to the online server.

Once the logo has finished uploading, the screen will refresh and you will see a preview of your logo along with some information about it's file size, dimensions and image format type:

Note: You can click the "Reset to Default" button to revert to the default Confluence logo if desired.

Hints & Tips

Try and keep the logo image file size as small as possible. For example, the red logo banner at the top of this page is only 15 Kilobytes.

The logo should not be wider than 250 pixels and ideally it should not be higher than 70 pixels.

Always check The Dashboard to make sure the logo appears as expected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q Can I remove the word "Dashboard" form next to my logo or change the alignment of these two items?
A Yes, using the html-tag macro, see our tutorial on "Dashboard" and Logo Beautification.
Q Transparent areas on my PNG format logo are not transparent - why?
A The chances are that you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer which doesn't fully understand PNG images by default! You will probably have to use a GIF image instead or wait until The Dashboard can have the Builder theme applied to it (as the theme automatically fixes this problem).
