This tutorial shows you how to create a new space...
Requirements
- You must have sufficient privileges to create spaces
Step 1 - Visit the Dashboard
Click on the "Dashboard" link that appears at the start of the Breadcrumb Trail:
Step 2 - Create the Space
Click the "Create a space" link that appears near the bottom left of the page:
A form will be displayed asking you to enter the details of the new space:
Fill in the three fields as per the on-screen instructions and then click the "OK" button to create the space.
Step 3 - Customise the Space Homepage
This step isn't required to create the space, but it's one of the first things you should do immediately after making a new space so we thought we'd include it anyway!
Access the Space you have just created and you will automatically be taken to the Space Homepage. Click on the "Edit" tab and enter a welcome message then click the "Update" button to save the changes. For more information on editing pages, see our tutorial on Editing Pages.
Hints and Tips
When you first create a space, only yourself and system administrators will be able to see it. To define who can see a space, set the Space Permissions.
Before adding content to your space, you should change the Space Theme (if required) so that as you add content you can see how it looks within the chosen theme.
Keep the "Space Name" short so that it doesn't take up too much room on the Breadcrumb Trail.
Keep the "Space Key" short - if you start linking content between spaces, it will be used a lot so keeping it short reduces the amount you have to type.
