Community Bubbles Plugin Forum Functionality Example - KapIT

Nov 05, 2009 00:00

The Community Bubbles plugin is one of the largest plugins (feature wise) for Confluence. Even as the lead developer I sometimes forget about functionality that this plugin has. For new users evaluating the plugin and what can be done with it can some times be overwhelming.

We frequently use this plugin to assist clients to build their websites and intranets on top of Confluence. Unfortunately the bulk of these systems are behind corporate firewalls or require you to have an account to login, which makes linking to a live demo a bit difficult. So occasionally when we come across a site that is available publicly we'll try to highlight these in our Blog so you can see the plugin being used in the wild.

One great example of the forum macro in use is by KapIT for their Labs website. This site is built on top of Confluence (with a helping hand from the [Theme Builder] plugin) and contains a forum section to allow the community to create and reply to posts about their products and tools. This is a great example of the using Confluence and the forum macros to provide simple forums inside Confluence without the need for other external software. Also, I think you'd agree they have done a great job of tying in the forum macro with the rest of their sites theme.

Also utilised in this site is some of the communities functionality that enhances the functionality of normal confluence spaces. Unfortunately you will need to be involved in the beta program for their new Confluence FX plugins to be able to see that in action.

Do you have a great example of the plugin you'd like to share?

We're always on the lookout for great looking public facing sites that show how our plugins can be used. If you'd like to be included in a future blogpost, please contact us.
