Adaptavist announce Builder 1.6

Containing a plethora of enhancements and bug fixes, this is a highly recommended upgrade...

After a few weeks locked in dark rooms, our developers have incorporated over 20 enhancements, new features and bug fixes... You're already looking at the results - this website is now running Builder 1.6 on Confluence 2.2

Menus

Menus are now more customisible than ever, thanks to the new "Menu Settings" panel:

We've added new items to the standard View and Edit menus such as Copy this page... and New > Space....

The menus are also more intelligent and will automatically hide items, for example the Mail item will only be shown if a Mail Archive has been configured for the space.

The in-built menus are now fully documented, so you can customise them much more easily:

If you've got big menus that won't fit on smaller screens (or more specifically within the browser window), you can now enable scrolling menus:

The menu privileges are now far more granular and strictly adhere to your Space permissions and global Confluence permissions. For example, if you're a space admin but your space privileges state you can't add news, then you won't be able to add news.

We've also fixed a bug that was causing problems on the Safari web browser

Pages

A new "Page Settings" panel makes it easier to perform some very common tasks:

When the page information bar is not shown, it's JavaScript is now output so that the Content Formatting Macros and Calendar Plugin will still function.

You can now hide the "Dashboard" link on the breadcrumb trail by selecting an option.

Confluence 2.1 - 2.2 Support

The theme has been fully tested on Confluence 2.2 and can be applied to user spaces as well as normal spaces:

In addition, the theme has been heavily tested with Confluence 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3, 2.1.4, 2.1.5 and 2.1.5a.

Search Engine Optimisation

For the first time, we've included some enhancements aimed at optimising your content in search engine (e.g. Google) results:

• The breadcrumb trail is now output below the main page content in the HTML (but still appears on screen where you expect it to)
• The "Labels:" heading that appears at the top of pages is now hyperlinked (to the labels heatmap) so your AdSense adverts no longer think every page is about label printers

In future versions we hope to add some additional search engine enhancements so we're keen to hear your feedback!

Performance Enhancements

To help our clients who are delivering content to rural locations in India and Africa, we've incorporated numerous performance enhancements aimed at older web browsers, slower PC's and low bandwidth connections, including the two most frequent requests:

• Icons on the View and Edit menus can be removed or use smaller GIF images
• Numerous menu features can be removed, including shadows and tooltips

With the release of Confluence 2.2, Adaptavist's caching patch has now been incorporated directly in to Confluence. This enhancement allows resources stored within any plugin (not just Builder) to be cached by the web browser.

We have also created a Performance Tuning tutorial page where we'll list a growing number of hints and tips for improving performance of the theme and your content.

Upgrading from Builder 1.5.x

Builder can be manually installed or upgraded using the Confluence Plugin Repository - whichever route you choose, remember to restart Confluence after the upgrade (you'll see a warning message if you forget). Your old settings will be carried across automatically but as usual we recommend taking a full backup first.
